In 1998 the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology accorded the Allan Herbarium (CHR), the International Collection of Microorganisms from Plants (ICMP), Te Kohinga Harakeke o Aotearoa – National New Zealand Flax Collection (FLAX), the New Zealand Arthropod Collection (NZAC) and the New Zealand Fungarium - Te Kohinga Hekaheka o Aotearoa (PDD) the status of Nationally Significant Collections and Databases. Upkeep and maintenance is supported by Strategic Science Investment Fund funding from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s Science and Innovation Group (MBIE).
