Specimen notes
Public Note:
Could this be the teleomorph of Chalara unicolor? C. unicolor present in the same specimen, on the wood and on what appear to be parasitised apothecia. But, apothecia of the same disco are present also on the type collection of C. unicolor. Apothecia forming on wood with flecks of orange to red pigment; apothecia sessile, orange, gelatinous appearance, mostly translucent orange, but arising from dull, orange pad of basal tissue that forms on the wood surface. Excipulum of brick-shaped cells with thickened agglutinated walls near the base of the disc, cells long-cylindric and strictly parallel higher up the apothecium. Paraphyses 2 µm, undiff to apex; asci cylindric, tapering gradually to broad substruncate apex, wall thickened at apex, faintly and diffusely amyloid; ascospores 20-25 x 5.5-6 µm, oblong-elliptic, tapering slightlt to rounded ends, flat one side and slightly curved, becoming 3-septate, hyaline.
