Specimen notes
Public Note:
[PL] very large fruiting body and very large spores. C. pachysperma. [JAC] has both 2 and 4spored basidia. spores length=14.7-17.9µm (µ=16.0, σ=0.71), width=10.7-12.1µm (µ=11.4, σ=0.35), Q=1.3-1.6µm (µ=1.41, σ=0.07), n=20. For C.nivea they are 12-19 x 11-15.5. For C. pachysperma, which is supposed to be only 2-spored, they are 13-16.5 x 12.5-15.5. C. pachysperma recorded from the Falklands and rare in Europe. It seems most likley that it is a genetic variant of C. nivea. I prefer to call this collection C. nivea rather than introducing a new name, given that is has both 2 and 4-spored basidia.
