Public Note:
stems to 5cm. stem base strigose with brown hyphae. Another member of the metuloidifera group. Most unusual with dark red/brown cap and red stem. With hyphal rope against gill edge and fine diveritculae on hyphae plus vesiculose cystidia with fingers, and and conical thick-walled cystidia, in addition to thick-walled pleurocystidia. Spores easily collapsing and variable. 4-spored. length=7.8-10.5µm (µ=9.2, σ=0.75), width=5.2-6.8µm (µ=6.0, σ=0.50), Q=1.4-1.8µm (µ=1.54, σ=0.12), n=20. ITS & LSU identical with M. cystidiosa!
