Specimen notes
Public Note:
without doubt this species (in the sense of Horak), which appears to be rare. Immature spores are amyloid, then dextrinoid. length=5.8-6.8µm (µ=6.1, σ=0.27), width=3.3-3.9µm (µ=3.7, σ=0.13), Q=1.5-2.0µm (µ=1.64, σ=0.11), n=20. I suspect many collections labelled umbriceps are coacta. Sequences say this is closely related to Podoserpula in the amylocorticiales. It is inserted between sequences of P. pusio and Hypochniciellum subillaqueatum. Should this be transferred to Podoserpula? Podoserpula has inamyloid spores according to most texts. Hjortstam & Larsoon detected a variable dextrinoid reaction, but say nothing about reaction of cap cystidia. I'd suggest that Podoserpula is a better home for this taxon than Hygrophoropsis. Cantharellus insignis seems to be a bridge between this spathulate form and catenate P. pusio form. Note that Cook'e coloured drawing and original description are somewhat at odds with this and Horak's's interpretation. I doubt any specimens would have orange gills.
