Public Note:
From garden of demolition site red-zone house. Urediniospores with 6 pores , wall to 3.5um thick, length=21.5-29.2µm (µ=25.4, σ=1.54), width=18.7-22.8µm (µ=20.9, σ=1.39), Q=1.1-1.6µm (µ=1.22, σ=0.12), n=20. Teliospores side wall to 1um, apex to 4um. length=34.5-42.5µm (µ=38.6, σ=2.91), width=13.6-20.2µm (µ=16.9, σ=1.77), Q=1.9-2.6µm (µ=2.29, σ=0.21), n=14. This has some of the features of P. polypogonis and not P. polypogonobia, e.g. it has 6 pores, not 8-10, and has median septate teliospores, not upper septate. In other respects it fits Eric's species. Note that other rusts recorded on this genus are Puccinia graminis (Venezuela on P. elongatus., Dicaeoma poculiforme (=P. graminis) (on P. monspeliensis, N.A. Flora), P. coronata (on P. monspeliensis, Africa), P. graminis (on P. tenuis, Africa), P. rhamni (=P. coronata) (California on P. monspeliensis, Blasdalae.). P. graminis has long pedicels, and this not especially coronate so not coronata. In fact this looks very similar to P. recondita (a complex of form species), but with larger urediniospores. Might expect susceptibility to Agrostis rusts as host forms hybrids with the genus, i.e. P. coronata and also P. recondita alternating with Aquilegia or similar. No alternate hosts found in the area.
