Specimen notes
Public Note:
new record for NZ. associated with internodes. Conidia with appendages at one or both ends. Conidiogenous cells not seen. Conidia length=12.5–15.2µm (µ=13.9, σ=0.83), width=4.2–5.3µm (µ=4.8, σ=0.30), Q=2.5–3.4µm (µ=2.92, σ=0.24), n=14. Conidia hyaline becoming grey. The various descriptions of perforans show anthing from a tight mucilagenous cap to an extended sheath. It seems likley they are variations on the same structure. See pirozynki and shoemaker 1971. Surely a Halosarphaeia possible anamorph? N. Wijayawardene says not this species.
J.A. Cooper
Public Note:
This is probably not Tiarospora perforans.
