Public Note:
cap clay buff. Cap finely tomentose, sub-layer gelatinous, cap transluscent where pubescent cap compressed against the undrlying gelatinous layer. Clamped. . 4-spored, thick walled. length=9.3-11.0µm (µ=10.1, σ=0.5), width=6.6-8.5µm (µ=7.3, σ=0.5), Q=1.3-1.5µm (µ=1.4, σ=0.0), n=12. The gills are not rust-brown but the spores are brown. Is this really a melanotus? There are no collections in PDD. Egon has my material of 'Nile River' as a collection of C. nz. Sequence suggests this is not part of main Crepidotus group and represent a third group (also not C. gilvidus group). There are some C. mollis sequences here (which would make this C. sensu stricto). The tree is not consistent with Vizzini et al (2012) on Neopaxillus. If Neopaxillus is maintained as separate then seems to be evidence that the group containing crocophyllus, applanatus (p.p.), trulliformis, rufoflocossus, lateralipes requires a different genus. And C. nz is only marginally a Crepidotus whatever.
