Specimen notes
Public Note:
with white reticulate stem and finely(very) pruinose cap, milky coffee to fawn, dry, smooth when young and deeply cracked when older. Gills yellow to yellowish green, flesh white, unchanging, slightly sweet No tissue going blue, no reaction with NH4OH. This appears to be the first record of this species with this host - but not surprising considering the numerous other mycorrhizal species 'acquired' by Cedrus in this location. Spores smooth. Cap hyphae not B. pinophila-like, cylindrica. Smell not especially pleasant. I'd say this is closer to B. reticulatus rather than B. edulis. ITS sequencing of an identical collection from the same location and growing under Quercus ilex (JAC11311) proved to be identical to 'B. aff. reticulatus' (Korhonen et al, Karstenia v49, pp41-60, 2009), specifically GU198971(11183MK) in their Boletus edulis group. Loaned to Kunming March 2011
