Specimen notes
Public Note:
cap blood red in KOH. Taste mealy. Possibly causing a brown rot. Spores weakly amyloid, thin walled. No cystidia seen. 1,2,3-spored. length=5.0–6.0µm (µ=5.5, σ=0.3), width=3.2–4.0µm (µ=3.7, σ=0.3), Q=1.4–1.8µm (µ=1.5, σ=0.1), n=8. Basidia with internal granules in KOH (but not carminophilous, or cyaophilous). Spore wall (quite thick) weakly cyanophilous. Cap a gelatinised cutis of broad unclamped hyphae, with occasional thick glassy hairs, and brown thin-walled pilocystidia (in KOH). This has to be this taxon - except for being unclamped, lack of obvious cystidia and stem not appreciably velvety (!). Note that Kerekes & Desjardin think this is different to the PNG taxon and should be H. veluticeps (Stevenson) xxx. (Fungal Diversity 2009. [JAC 8/7/2010] Changed ID from Heimiomyces neoveluticeps.
