Specimen notes
Public Note:
New record for New Zealand, although this is clearly Cook'e concept of C. galeata, previously recorded from NZ (but article doesn't give details of the material examined). Looks very like Phaeosolenia densa except the asperulate spores (like a galerina) are clear. I bet this is also Cook'e Asterocyphella, although the chosen type for that genus is a corticioid according to Donk and the genus is a nom. dub. (DOF needs updating). Spores length=8.6–9.5µm (µ=9.0, σ=0.3), width=6.8–7.9µm (µ=7.4, σ=0.4), Q=1.1–1.3µm (µ=1.2, σ=0.1), n=9. Reported to MAF 2/07/2010. A sequence of this came out as a hebeloma and so I assumed it was a contaminant. In fact this species is related to Hebeloma and existing GenBank sequences were misidientifications of a species related to Phaeosolenia, which sits within the Tubariaceae.
