Specimen notes
Public Note:
Looks like a yellow Pleurocollybia cremea but not. Spores inamyloid (or weakly so). Cap a partially gelatinised (disorganised) cutis with ovoid subepidermal cells, not dextrinoid and with gloeocystidia yellow in KOH. 2-4 spored length=7.6–9.3µm (µ=8.3, σ=0.5), width=4.2–5.4µm (µ=4.7, σ=0.4), Q=1.5–2.1µm (µ=1.8, σ=0.2), n=13, thick-walled. Gill tissue with oleiiferous hyphae. With acuminate metuloid pleuro (gloeo?) and cheilocystidia. Clamped. Stem densley coated in gloeocystidia. No tissue metachromatic, spore wall cyanophilous. Dried a deep orange color. Some stems broadened at base and covered with a white tomentum. . Closest to angiospermarum(=epia for Pegler) or L. modesta (Chile). Section albae. L. cycadicola was described from France on Asian cycads and assumed to be close to epia(Ceylon)/angiospermarum (Florida). For Singer the difference is cycadiciola with larger spores 9-10x5-6 for cycadicola versus 7-10 x 5-6 for angiospermarum and the presence of a subiculum. This single collection covers both versions. Perhaps closer to Reid's L. piliicystis. The sequence data indicates this is not the same as an Italian collection of L. epia. I am not using L. cycadicola because that is either specific to Cycads or a synonym of L. epia. L. modesta also does not seem sufficiently distinguished (smaller spores, narrower pilocystidia). Out of all of them this may be L. modesta but that would require sequence comparison with S. American material.
