Specimen notes
Public Note:
this or not? Taste bitter, mealy. Cap wine red in KOH! Gills emarginate. Spore print white. No tissue amyloid or dextrinoid. Spores with thick glassy walls at poles 5.9-7.3(6.5) SD0.5 n=8 x 3.7-4.7(4.2) SD0.3 n=11. Cap hyphae expanded, clampless, with intra- or extra-cellular pigment. Cheilocystidia not obvious, no pleurocystidia. 4-spored. Basidia not carminophilous, weakly cyanophilous, not metachromatic. Thought this might be a callistosporium but there are no pigments (later confirmed by sequences). Not Heimiomyces - that with amyloid spores, pruinose stem and orange when dry (this drying buff). Looks a bit like Pat's C. rimutaka, however no sign of broom cells in cap or clamp connections as mentioned by Egon. The rosy/violaceous intracellular pigment of the spores of Callistosporium apparantly only appear in dried material, according to Singer.
