Specimen notes
Public Note:
spores reticulate not verrucose. Sphacelotheca distinguished from Ustilago by the projecting columella. In E&E this not recorded for P. persicaria and even if was, would be S. hydropiperis. Vanky in FNZ2 says S. polygoni-serrulati 0.8-1um and hydropiperis is 'minutely rather than finer' reticulate. Average distance between verrucae 0.57 SD0.08. on this collection. So if 0.6 is minute relative to 0.8 as 'fine' then this is S. hydropiperis!
