Specimen notes
Public Note:
no milk, strigose hairs extensive towards base of stem, no smell. Gill edge concolorous. Tissue vinaceous dextrinoid. Cap a radial cutis of thin oramented hyphae over spherical cells - appearing fibrous under dissecting scope on dried material. Spores weakly amyloid, large collapsing, mainly 2-spored 8.4-10.7(9.5) SD0.7 n=9 x 5.8-6.4(6) SD0.2 n=9, length=9.2–10.9µm (µ=9.6, σ=0.54), width=5.6–6.4µm (µ=5.9, σ=0.24), Q=1.5–1.9µm (µ=1.63, σ=0.13), n=9 pleurocystidia not observed. Cheilocystidia 20 x 10, fingers to 3um. Not random substrate for collections of M. jac10006. This clearly has to be Grgurinovich's austrofilopes (although note smell and habitat of NZ material). New to NZ. Reported to MAF 2/07/2010. ... except sequences say this is M. filopes and not M. austrofilopes. It appears we have both species.
