Specimen notes
Public Note:
Cap sticky, taste mild. Cap a cutis with a final gelatinised layer. Hyphae with strong dark brown encrustation. Hyphae clamped. Both cheilo and pleurocystidia. No chrysocystidia - some yellow in water and KOH. Some encrusted with amorphous matter. Gill tissue exuding yellow pigment into KOH. Spores with small germ pore. Subgenus flammuloides. In Holec comes out near carbonicola (non auct Europe). On looking at this material I re-assesed previous collections under the names of P. jac9407, conissans and multicingulata. I suspect previous comments about presence of 'chrysocystidia' weren't always correct and they were just yellow anyway. The record of P. conissans needs critical assessment. Karl Soop origininally identified this as an undescribed Pholiota - and maybe he considers this distinct to P. multicingulata or his variety (with smaller spores and red tints). Note that Egon describes multicingulata with chrysocystidia.
