Specimen notes
Public Note:
No taste or smell. Stem with darker cystidia, base with white strigose hairs. Gills emarginate, in a series of two, gill edge darker towards cap. Spores inamyloid, subglobose 6-8um, thin-walled. Gill trama neither dextrinoid or amyloid, cap a cutis, stem tissue dextrinoid, with cylindrical brown caulocystidia, not clamped. Cheilocystidia like caulocystidia (at least where gill edge dark) thin-walled and cylindrical brown, pleurocystidia plentiful and very different, thick walled along length (2.5um) and thin at rounded apex 10 x 40um (similar to H. funebris). Cheilocystidia metachromatic, pleurocystidia definitely not. Spores absorbing strongly dye but not metachromatic. Basidia not siderophilous. A Hydropus close to Hydropus funebris (sensu NZ).
