Specimen notes
Public Note:
with caulocystidia along entire stem, not gelatinous, no veilar remnants. Spores tan, thin-walled 6 x 4 broadly ellipsoid/phaseoliform, without germ pore, 4-spored. Pilleipellis a trichoderm of elongate, broad (-6um) thin-walled, clamped hyphae, partially gelatinised, with clavate pilocystidia (actually a hymeniderm according to description). Hyphae possibly covered in v. small granules (looks like bacteria - and could be!). No pleurocystidia, cheilocystidia very distinctive, clavate (like pilocystidia), in fascicles, to 30 x 10 with septum. Horak to Simocybe and agrees pretty much with s. austrorubi apart from lack of umbo and on wood, not soil. S. austrorubi appears to beased on a single collection so I think some variability should be accepted until the concept is better defined. I think it does look like B&K rubi/hausterlaris in Ramicola/Simocybe. Vilgalys has simocybe as sister group to Crepidotus in the crepidotaceae.
