Coastal forest; log bulldozed over bank during road building; height: 5.5 cm; pileus: 7.5 cm diam. hemispheric - plano-convex. Dull dark purplish red with scattered black granules, velvety texture. Flesh white, tinged purple, continuous with stipe but of a different texture. Margin rolled under at first and joined to stipe by a white arachnoid veil; stipe: 1.2 cm at gills. Purple and pale striate, flesh fibrous,pale yellowish, about equal and a tapering "root" into the wood, can be hollow; gills: adnate, orange yellow with an irregular white margin, crowded; Rimu, Beech, Kamahi
