This collection was re-identified by Jorge Wright as A. stuckertii, described from South America.
A sequence-based study is required of these reticulate-spored Abstoma species, and their relationship to Disciseda. We will retain a single NZ concept of A. purpureum until that occurs and clarifies the relationships between A. purpureum, A. reticulatum and A. stuckertii.
