Public Note:
18th Fungal Foray of New Zealand; The collection was made at Eves Valley Scenic Reserve, a 15 minute drive from the Fungal Foray of New Zealand headquarters at the Teapot Valley Christian Camp on Teapot Valley Road \endash vegetation a mix of totora, beech and many other plants along several small streams. Perithecia crowded, fairly large (+/- 0.75 mm), rough, bristly, ostiolar region appearing collapsed (lighter colored and surrounded by a number of swollen raised areas) . Asci bitunicate, non-amyloid, with 8 hyaline ascospores. Copious branched pseudoparaphyses. Ascospores 2-celled (sometimes 4-celled) with a small hyaline basal appendage, an indentation at the central septum and large uniseriate vacuoles, 25-30 X 5-7 µm (n=2). See Barr, M. E. 1984. Herpotrichia and its segregates. Mycotaxon 20: 1-38 and Sivanesan Mycol. Pap. 127 (1972). Ann\lquotes tentative identification was Herpotrichia herpotrichoides, see Cannon, TBMS 79(2) p. 338-339. Her herbarium number is 876.
