Specimen notes
Public Note:
spores inamyloid length=7.9–9.5µm (µ=8.7, σ=0.47), width=3.4–4.6µm (µ=4.1, σ=0.31), Q=1.8–2.5µm (µ=2.13, σ=0.18), n=20. Stergimata very long. Pubescence on stem consisting of tufts of adpressed hyphae. Differences between vinacea and stevensoniae: latter has cap to 1.5cm, relatively long stem (stem > 2.5 cap) and cheilocystidia with elongate neck. Former has cap 1-2.5cm and relatively shorter stem (stem < 2.5 cap), and cheilocystidia without elongate neck. This collection has the macroscopic features of C. stevensoniae although they seem to look similar (see Egon's image of C vinacea). Cheilocystidia are irregular, rather than with elongate neck. Are vinacea and stevensoniae really different? See also 10442 and Oz/US (collybia) pinicolens/villosipes/subnuda/biformis. I've decided this is the californian taxon with P. radiata. Known in Australia - see Desjardin Mycotaxon 1997, with odd recombination into Micromphale by Grgurinovich? New to NZ. [JAC2010] Ron Petersen has NZ collections of Gymnopus biformis (see 2010 Connopus paper) which is presumably the same thing. Also see Hawaian G. menehune and US G. collybioides - noted for NZ by Horak. Reported to MAF 2/07/2010
