Specimen notes
Public Note:
pores pale yellow, turning green. Base of stem yellowing with blue. Cap dark brown, felty, deep red in cracks. Stem lightly ribbed pinkish on yellow background. Trama phylloporus type. Spores elongate 14 x 4um. Terminal cap hyphae without stripes or platelets. Cap not changing with ammonia. Amyloid hyphae in stem base not found. X. pruinatus is nearest FM9(3), but is not exact. Reported to MAF 2/07/2010. New record for NZ. Loaned to Kunming March 2011. DNA says X. cisalpinus. Spores length=10.5–13.3µm (µ=12.3, σ=0.85), width=3.9–4.6µm (µ=4.2, σ=0.23), Q=2.6–3.4µm (µ=2.91, σ=0.21), n=20. Despite lack of obvious 'pruinatus' hyphae in stem base this seems reasonably well defined by cuticle structure and small width spores. Marginally #2 according to sequences
