Specimen notes
Public Note:
Gills radiating from centre. Fruitbody gelatinized (but not elastic). Outer surface with white tomentum. Tomentum hyphae, glassy, thick-walled. Cystidia(?) present, amyloid, with pronounced coralloid protuberances. Spores cylindrical, inamyloid, 7.5 x 5um. These M. violaceogriseus collections are close to Grgurinovic's R. cinerascens except that with elliptical spores but with same distinctive coralloid cap hyphae. To Thorn. ID by Jen McDonald as R. cinerascens and not not R. violaceogriseus or R. pseudoviolaceogriseus. Apparently R. violaecogriseus has a violet hue areund the margin and R. cinerascens does not. The spores are also much narrower 5.9x 2.7 versus 6.8x4.2. It will be interesting to see the phylogenetic data supporting the equivalence of this and E8202,E8238
Public Note:
If this material is considered to be R. cinerascens then it becomes the correct name for R. violaceogriseus Stev.
