Specimen notes
Public Note:
Cap 0.8 –1.5 diam., conical, dark brick, pellucid striate, stem 0.75mm x 6cm cinnamon, bleeding brown-red when cut, strigose hairs at base. On wood with moss. Gill edge dark red. Cap hyphae of broadly ellipsoidal cells 50um and elongate cells, no evidence of pilocystidia. Spores weakly amyloid, cylindrical with apiculus, some with constricted waist 10-12 x 6-7um (-13x7.5 occasional spore) Q=1.7. 4-spored basidia. Dextrinoid layer below gill edge. Pleurocystidia ventricose 68 x 10 at widest. Cheilocystidia with finger-like processes. Ura is crimson and mariae doesn't have same cheilocystidia (really?). Nearest is Grgurinovich's M. toyelaricola. Not sure I agree with her separation of this from M. ura. Biggest difference seems to be colour and everything else overlaps. Size of cystidia in mine larger than that quoted for ura and nearer to toyelaricola. File under mariae but somebody needs to check differences between M. ura and M. toyelaricola. Horak believes M. mariae is a synonym of M. morris-jonesii but morphology/sequences don't support that.
