Public Note:
Cap 2-5 cm initially conical, flattening, wavy, radially splitting, rusty tawny-chestnut, greasy, minutely fibrous. Gills purplish date, slightly decurrent, with lamellulae. Stem pale band where gills join, 0.6 x 6.5cm, equal, yellow cortina when young, stem dark brick becoming increasingly fibrillose towards base, stuffed, concolourous with cap flesh. Taste mildly acrid, smell indistinct. Fasciculate, insiticious. Cap hyphae with 'zebra' extra-cellular incrustation. Clamp connections clear. Cheilocystidia and pleurocystidia glassy, conical sometimes capitate 50um, rounded at apex, 7.5um. Spores 8.3 x 4um, wrinkled epispore, no sign of plage, small pore. Not dextrinoid or cyanophilous. BFF7 keys to G. sapineus. No KOH reaction on cap or flesh on dried material.
