Specimen notes
Public Note:
With synnema, flesh coloured in mass, conidia to 10um but not obviously verrucose(?) [later found to be minutely verrucose]. New to New Zealand. Reported to MAF 2/07/2010 (as C. carneum) [JAC:27/05/2023] A sequence says this is the anamorphic state of Ruhlandiella sp. 'Rotokuru Lakes'. Despite the recent paper erecting Chromelosporiopsis etc, there is no published phylogenetic work to underpin it. In the sense of Hennebert this is Chromelosporiopsis and not Chromelosporium because it has synnema. However the type, Chromelosporiopsis carneum seems to be related to phylloscypha and Legaliana - probably as a good independent genus. Sequence says this is in a different clade and thus the morphological concept of Chromelosporiopsis is paraphyletic. The type species of Chromelosporium (ochraceum) remains unsequenced so placement of that remains uncertain. Current data suggest synnematous and non-synnematous species are scattered across the pezizaceae.
