Specimen notes
Public Note:
Spores 8um, no germ pore, apiculus lateral. Flesh reddening slightly, KOH negative. Cap 3.5-7cm diam. with fawn fine fibrils on white underlayer. Fruitbody thick, fleshy. Stem 4x 1.5-2.5cm, buried in sandy soil. Gill edge with cheilocystidia, 4-spored. Stem equal to slightly bulbous, no sign of rhizoids at base. Base flesh orange/yellow with time but not distinctive. Ring not prominent, forming a ridge, boot-like if anything. Cheilocystidia with brown content. Basidia and CC with dense sympodial branching which can make CC look chained, but not. Spores thick-walled, without germ pore. length=6.6–7.7µm (µ=7.1, σ=0.25), width=4.5–5.4µm (µ=5.0, σ=0.24), Q=1.3–1.6µm (µ=1.44, σ=0.08), n=21. Pileipellis hyphae not encrusted. Can't make it fit with anything in NZ or Moser, or Nordic Macromycetes. A. subperonatus? Not in a traditional section phylogenetically. Near A. bohusii. nigrobrunnescentes
