Specimen notes
Public Note:
17th Fungal Foray of New Zealand; Perithecia small, dark, setose. Asci thin-walled with 8 irregularly biseriate ascospores and a small, but distinct, apical ring. Ascospores hyaline, 4-celled with 3 transverse septa, and pointed at each end. Microscope slide mounts yielded fewer ascospores and intact asci than hoped for but those that were found fit published descriptions of C. novaezelandiae. The Catenularia anamorph was abundant and its conidiophores and conidia perfectly matched the Catenularia that is associated with C. novaezelandiae. The distinctive Brachysporiella gayana was a good fit to its published descriptions.
