17th Fungal Foray of New Zealand; On an unidentified decorticated wet stump. Ascomata numerous, black, smooth. The anamorph Dendryphiopsis atra was represented by dark conidiophores and conidia among the ascomata. Ascospores were dematiaceous and 2-celled, 29-37(-38) X 10-12.5(-15) µm (n=20). Conidial measurements were (35-)65-67.5 X 17.5-20 µm (n=3). Hughes, S.J. 1978. New Zealand fungi 25. Miscellaneous species. New Zealand Journal of Botany 16: 311-370 (see pp. 360-362) has good coverage of this species and its anamorph. His description and illustrations match well with this specimen.
