Specimen notes
Public Note:
ex 8492, ie occured spontaneously in culture and not found on original material. Colonies grey, felty on 2%MEA, balls to 100um diam, hyaline maturing brown, filament diam 2um irregular, 6-8um cells, 5-7 septate per coil and constricted at septa, predominantly unilateral branching. Nearest spirosphaera would be beverwijkiana but hyphae much narrower. Hyphae a bit narrow but close enough. New to New Zealand. ITS indicates equivalence to JAC8475 (98% bootstrap). However, despite this being only from culture, it has much smaller diameter hyphae and is looser, and mainly unilateral (ie true spirospaera). Nearest in Genbank is lachnum, zalerion varium Genbank EF029215. Reported to MAF 2/07/2010
