Public Note:
PILEUS: 6-7 cm diam., plano-convex, viscid, glabrous, margins non-pectinate, rather thick, mid brown to dark brown, blackening with age, (c 7E5). GILLS: moderately crowded, rather thick, creamy white with slight greyish tints, turning black with age, to 6 mm deep. STIPE: 14 cm long, tapering basally, c 2 cm diam. apically, 1.3 cm basally, sordid greyish fawn, dry, subvelutinate under lens; flesh white at first, turning jet black fairly rapidly, solid, firm and rather granular with an exterior rhind. CONTEXT: sordid white, rapidly turning black, firm and rather granular. SMELL: putrid. TASTE: lamellae acrid, context acrid. CHEMICAL CHARACTERS: FeSO4 faintly greyish green.
