[McNabb] Paratype. #11, K33. Habitat solitary. Pileus: 9cm diam., centrally depressed, smooth, dry, innately pruinose, thrown into rugose folds particularly near margins, dark brown with salmon orange patches, particularly near centre, margins slightly incurved. Gills: adnate, dull orange, thick to 7mm deep, lamellae simple, 10-20 lamellulae present in strict sequence, with brown margins, exuding a viscid white latex whan damaged, latex not changing colour on expsoure to air. Stipe: 6.5cm long +- equal, c 2cm diam., dry, solid to slightly stuffed, annulus absent, smooth, slightly pruinose, velvety under hand lens, dark brown, slightly yellowish brown near base. Flesh: ... Spore print: dull ochraceous orange. Context of pileus: sordid white with faint brownish tints slowly turning bright orange-red on exposure, finally+- vinaceous coloured. Chemical reactions: formalin pink red, Phenol slowly deep vinaceous, FeSO4 slightly salmon pink, guaiacol on stipe base slightly salmon pink to orange red, KOH on pileus yellowing, NH4OH on pileus darkening, on context yellowing. [Cooper] Gills greyish in dried material. Cap with brown elongate cells in chains arising from spherical cells and long refractive cystidia to 400um x 20um diam for basal spherical cells. Spores from gill length=8.0–9.4µm (µ=8.7, σ=0.40), width=7.3–8.9µm (µ=8.1, σ=0.37), Q=1.0–1.1µm (µ=1.07, σ=0.04), n=20, ornamentation to 1.5um. Note that McNabb's description of paratype PDD31233 says 'Context of pileus: white at first very slowly changing with pinkish tints at first, later pinkish salmon with darker almost black tints. Milk white, unchanging''
