Specimen notes
Public Note:
[McNabb] #14, painting K11 [collection split into two isotypes but they are under same PDD number so all are effectively holotype]. Gregarious under Nothofagus menziesii, Umere, 8/1/1968. [Horak] HABITAT/SUBSTRATE: EM. - On soil under Nothofagus menziesii. FRUITING: January. SPECIMENS EXAMINED: NEW ZEALAND: Nelson, Karamea, Umere, 8 Jan. 1968, R.F.R.McNabb 14 (holotype PDD 26525, isotype ZT 69-315). [Cooper] cap an ixocutis, with refractive crystal plates in deeper layers adjacent hymenium. No surface cystidia or hairs observed. Stem surface identical to cap. Spores length=6.4–8.0µm (µ=7.2, σ=0.39), width=6.0–7.2µm (µ=6.4, σ=0.29), Q=1.0–1.2µm (µ=1.12, σ=0.05), n=20. All material in both isotype packets was examined and found to have zebroid spores and monilioid cystidia apices in a subset of cystidia. It would appear that McNabb's illustrations of the spores was correct but his illustration of the cystidia was not typical.
