Specimen notes
Public Note:
Cap 15-32 mm across. Convex to broadly convex, becoming nearly plane, but with inrolled to incurved margin. Dry, radially fibrillose or areolate-cracked. Dark brown with pale beige-tan clumps of fibrils in plaques. Margin appendiculate with adhering sheets of fibrillose-membranous partial veil. Gills slightly thick-edged, finely attached to obscurely sinuate, many forking. Margins slightly irregular. Whitish to very light grayish, occasional light orangey blotches. Partial veil zone very high on stipe (superior), obscure fibrillose band. Stipe 27-45 mm tall, 7-13 mm thick. Cylindrical overall but with pointed/tapered base. Ochre brown over most of stipe over creamy-beige ground color; upper parts with dingy olive-gray floccose fibrils collapsing to leave dark brown appressed chevrons or irregular bands. Flesh white, with large central hollow, walls with ochre crumbly bits of pith. Fruiting tightly in small groups but not truly fused. Odor indistinct, taste indistinct. KOH. UV nil.
