Cap 19-27 mm. Weakly rounded-conic or rounded convex when young, expanding somewhat to broadly convex, some slightly wavy in age. Smooth, dry, slightly wrinkled. Very dark navy blue black, margin opaque. Flesh whitish under umbo, very thin or absent over gills. Gills finely an obscurely notched or finely attached, or appearing obscurely free. Whitish to very pallid grayish. Fairly deep, margins even, fairly widely spaced. Stipe 35-70 x 3-9 mm. Slightly curved, cylindrical, enlarged towards base. Beautiful medium silvery royal blue; lustrous, surface slightly irregular, with vertical striate appearance. Flesh light dingy grayish blue, stipe with central hollow. Odor indistinct, although seemed somewhat like napthalene when very fresh (in the field). Taste nil. KOH bleaching cap to light purplish lilac. UV nil.
