Specimen notes
Public Note:
New species. Morphology matches Acarosporina sensu Sherwood 1977, but does not have the pathogenic lifestyle Sherwood considered characteristic of the genus. Apothecia immersed, hymenium covered by crystalline membrane that splits open when mature, mycelium within this layer dark coloured. Asci about 150-180 x 5.5-7 µm, thick walled at apex, amyloid wall. Ascospore length not clearly seem, about 60-75 µm long, breaking into individual, 1-celled part-spores soon after differentiation within asci, each part spore more or less globose, 1.5-2 µm diam.. Paraphyses 1.5 µm, swelling suddenly and irregularly to 2.5-3 µm diam. at apex. Part spores germinate on water agar within 24 h.
PRJ, Oct 2022
Public Note:
ITS identical to ex-type culture of A. hyalina, despite the ascomatal wall hyphae being dark rather than hyaline.
