Public Note:
Several conidiomatal locules develop across a single spot, locule irregular in size and shape. Conidiomata develop within the epidermal cell layer, the remains of the epidermal cells embedded in the upper part of the conidiomata wall. In vertical section the lower wall of the conidioma 10-15 um wide, comprising 2-3 layers of angular cells with walls hyaline, slightly thickened, lined with ampuliform to short-cylindric, solitary conidiogenous cells, tapering slightly to apex, with several well-defined annulations in the upper half, with a single broad, apical conidiogenous locus. Upper wall of conidioma 20-25 um thick, comprisign several layers of angular cells with wall, thick, dark brown, intermixed with remains of host epidermal cells. Sterile tissue between the locules up to 30 um thick, of 6-8 layers of cells 4-7 um diam., with walls hyaline, slightly thickened. Conidia 36-45 x 6-8.5 (average 40.4 x 7.5 um), hyaline, cylindric, slightly curved, tapering gradually towards the ends, base truncate, 0-septate. Conidia germinate on water agar within 24h, develop a short germ tube with a swollen tip, then stop growing, but over the next several days the tip darkens to form an appresorium-like structure.
