Specimen notes
Public Note:
"[SK] growing in soil, mixed podocarp broadleaf. Pale peach-salmon. Photos P6021335-1337 [JAC] The well delimited stipe base suggests it is isn't C. phoenicia var. perscina, and perhaps closer to C. roseoviolacea. It would help to know if this Clavaria, Holocoryne or Clavulinopsis … 1 Tramal hyphae with clamp connections, Frbs usually with carotenoid pigments. Frbs branchedor not. Clavulinopsis/Ramariopsis 1 Tramal hyphae without clamp connections. Frbs sometimes with yellow/orange pigments.2 2 Basidia base with loop-like clamps, fracturing leaving a bifurcate base. Appearing in a squash as tangles at the basidia basal layer. Frbs unbranched. Holocoryne 2 Basidia base simple, not bifurcate, appearing uniform in a squash. Frbs branched or not. Clavaria [SK] Spores globose, smooth, 5-6 x 5-6 um. The tramal hyphae have clamps, as do the base of the basidia. In Petersen's key this puts it into subgenera Clavulinopsis, with C. phoenicia var. persicana being the best fit. However, Petersen describes the stipe as being slightly expanded at the base, which doesn't fit with the specimen in my image. [JAC:16/09/2023] looks like Clavaria megaspinosa."
