Pores round. angular to slightly maze-liek, 12-15 per 5 mm, becoming more ragged and short maze-like in age, Whitish when young, staining pinkish gray, aging dark gray. Stipe 15-50 mm long, 10-31 mm thick, central to off-center, tapering towards base, surface felty over lower portion when young, ,atten in age, appressed-finrillose near apex, grayish to black, basal mycelium gray. Flesh firm, larva-tunnled, 13-15 mm thick at disc, tapered quickly toward margin to ~1 mm, whitish to light gray, staining pinkish gray, then slowly blackish when young, dingy gray overall in age. odor earthy, with slight curry tones, taste earthy. Habitat: Scattered on trail bank, in moss under red and silver beech [JAC:6/11/2023] The sequence for this is close to the type from Rimutaka. This is odd. We now have 2 sequences from each of the two sites and they show two different sequences for each site. Are there quite divergent copies within the species?
