Public Note:
Caps quite pale brown, flesh weakly pink under skin when cut. Pores becoming slightly blue green on bruising and then fading. Stem strongly bulbous and without reticulations - consistently. I am not convinced this is B. edulis. Also found later under oaks at a different site. … but sequence confirms as edulis. [JAC:29/09/2022] It seems B. edulis can be separated from similar species most reliably by the fact that it has predominantly 2/3-spored basidia. B. pinophilus is 4-spored.
