Specimen notes
Public Note:
[LO] Growing in soil. Apparently was quite difficult to remove - radicating stipe? No clamps. Basidia 4-spored. Spores globose to subglobose, 3-4 um x 3-4 um, inamyloid. Stipe 30 x 3–4 mm, tapering towards the base - broken off in removal from soil. Stipe stained red where bruised. [JAC] good candidate for Egon's N. squarrosa except for the red bruising. But he only had a single collection and it was mature compared to this. Red bruising seems to be a feature of some of these odd Hygrophoraceae. Not something I have come across. [JAC] just a few fragments sent. Blackened on drying. Poor condition. Tissue unclamped (innata not squarrosa?), 4-spored, no cystidia seen. Spores and basidia show a distinct patchy dextrinoid reaction (like necropigments). Clear in KOH. Spores seem to be very minutely wrinkled (associated with the dextrinoid reaction?).
