[NS ]Russula (bright yellow gills) . Scattered in soil under mountain Beech . Cap 22-82 mm across, color highly variable, mostly dark purple, with red tones, to more red, or even orange-red when young, dry to moist, gills bright golden yellow young, remaining yellow in age, stipe 22-48 mm long, 5-14 mm thick, red punctate fibrils over yellow base color, flesh cream to pale yellow, stipe solid young, somewhat hollow in age, taste mild.
