[NS] scattered and clustered from soil, under beech. Cap 60-130+ mm across, dry, dark purple-black when young developing brown and gray tones in age, pores violet when in button stage, soon off-white to pinkish, staining pinkish buff, flesh white, darkening slightly, stipe equal to clavate, taste slightly bitter, odor indistinct.
