surely a Cryptohymenium, but lacking the sterile layer covering the hymenium in C. pycnidiophorum; ascospores the same, asci with less intense J+ reaction, paraphyses less swollen at apex.

Public Note:
Fruiting body comprises several stalk-like structures arising from a shared, stromatic base. The surface of the stalk is ornamented with clumps of coarse scale-like elements, but smooth at the rounded apex, which contains the multi-loculate ?spermatial asexual state. The hymenium is wrapped around the upper half of the stalk, immediately below the apical conidioma. The hyemnium appears to be naked from the start (cf. C. pycnidiophorum), wraps around the upper part of the stromatal stalk, with a well-developed groove down one side, where the two sides of the hymenium meet. Asci about 200-240 x 11-13 um, subclavate, long-stipitate, spores in uppermost 90-110 um x um), amyloid pore shallow, flaring, pale blue. Ascospores 21.5-29.5 x 4-6 um (average 25.1 x 5.1 um), oblong-elliptic, taper gradually to narrow rounded ends, flat one side, not curved, 0-septate, hyaline. Paraphyses 2.5 um, swelling suddenly to 5-7 um at clavate apex, apical part embedded in pale gel with small granules.
