Specimen notes
Public Note:
[GS] Three puffballs, ranging in size from 10 cm to 6 cm across, growing on a lawn area. Creamy-white, with a mosaic pattern of fawn patches, especially on the 2 larger fruit bodies. [JAC] Microscopically it has a Calvatia-type capillitium with numerous bone-joint-like septa and verrucose spores with no pedicel. Phylogenetically the NZ version is not the same as the european original (which has less ornamented spores), and probably the Au version of C. candida is the same. Eventually I suspect it will get called Calvatia retis, when the Australian Lycoperdon retis is recombined.
