Specimen notes
Public Note:
small fruitbodies 8-10mm high x 5-7mm diam. with a very short small cylindrical base with rhizoids and attached to (parasite of?) the Metzgeria furcata liverwort in the photo. The egg-shaped fruitbodies are apically and irregularly dehiscent with a floury-granulose surface covering. There are three layers to the peridium, including that outer layer. The capillitium is of the Lycoperdon-type, unbranched and connected to the walls of the peridium. The capillitia have swollen thick-walled septa. The capillitium is brown. There is no basal membrane and no sterile base. The spores are globose, minutely verrucose and with a short pedicel diam. 3.5-4.3µm (µ=3.9, σ=0.2). Lycoperdon fusiforme described from Tibet has a siilar form, but there isn't enough data on that species. I suspect this is an overlooked, undescribed species. It would be interesting to know if this really is a moss/liverwort parasite. https://inaturalist.nz/observations/4727832, https://inaturalist.nz/observations/4711808.
