Specimen notes
Public Note:
[GS]Small mushrooms growing on a rotting branch on the ground in broadleaf-podocarp forest. Caps to 10 mm across, red-brown, radially striate. Gills white with a darker edge, widely spaced, attached to stem. Stems similar colour to caps, pruinose, with a swollen base. [JAC] Spores amyloid and gill edge is brown. This and M. lividorubra I find difficult to distinguish, if in fact they are different. The phylogenetic data show a species complex which may eventually segregate into identifiable identites. Whether there are correlating morphological differences and whether those relate to Segedin's species in this group (austroavenacea, lividorubra, podocarpi, rubroglobulosa) remains to be seen.
