Specimen notes
Public Note:
[PdL]Thallus dull yellow to yellow-brown. Stout 80-100 mm tall. Stalk 'corky', smooth, fibrous, yellow - to yellow brown, up to 80 mm long and 20 mm diameter, base (where submerged in leaf littler / soil) tapering otherwise of uniform thickness. Cap 80-100 mm diameter and 40 mm thick, more or less flat 'cushion-shaped' (not distinctly convex or concave), margins irregular, cap when viewed from above more or less square (but highly irregular and in some specimens almost tabular to circular - margins and surface always browsed by invertebrates and possibly possums or lagomorphs), upper surface yellow-brown to brown, smooth; underside yellow-brown covered in pores, surface irregular, often pitted and pocked with deep holes lined with pores. In these examples a secondary white fungus appeared to be parasitic on some of the fruiting bodies (stalk and cap) - coating the thallus with a fine white 'fuzz'. [JAC] More like X. griseoolivaceus and/or Clive's JAC13178. Spores length=8.3-10.4µm (µ=9.5, σ=0.46), width=3.5-4.5µm (µ=3.9, σ=0.28), Q=2.2-2.8µm (µ=2.44, σ=0.20), n=20
