Specimen notes
Public Note:
Looks like a mini Heterotextus or an Orbilia, pustular and attached at a narrow base, with a firm skin (unlike stillatus), cortex undifferentiated, outer stem hyphae thick and rough-walled, constrcited at septa, not clamped, spores 3 septate. length=9.6-11.1µm (µ=10.1, σ=0.6), width=4.3-5.0µm (µ=4.6, σ=0.3), Q=2.0-2.4µm (µ=2.2, σ=0.2), n=5. Roberts says this group, including capitatus and stillatus, is difficult. Courtecuisse in Doc Myc 1990 clearly shows the rough walled constricted hyphae like this collection. I think this is D. capitatus. D. lacrymalis is discoid/gyrose (and Moser's picture of D. capitatus in the Atlas is actually D. lacrymalis). It would be useful to confirm that collections of D. lacrymalis do not have rough walled hyphae at the base. No collections since 1965.
